Just 10 days to CAT 2005

The first all India exam I've appeared is IIT-JEE Screening test on 10th Dec.(Sunday) as a matter of fact it completely changed my life and I am here. Now it's something simalar is about to happen nearly around 5 years since then i.e. on 20th Nov. 2005.

The times are changing and the competetion is redefining itself to newer and higher targets. To say in a line for me the history is about to repeat, well let's see if this endavour gets any change in my life or not.

Again its time for 10 days "magic" I rather say "miracle" at IIT Kharagpur. The end-sems immediately following CAT and its another Royal Pain.

All the best for all the chaps appearaing for CAT 2005.

Illumination

Yeh illu illu kya hai ? Why is it so special to KGPians ?

This is the first question you'll be asking yourself and you would be eager to know this vague connection between the pedantic breed of humans, well known as IITians and their unique way of Diwali celebrations, in short we name it illu.

Illumination started in early 90's and a rich tradition all of us in Kharagpur are really proud of, because it is something unique to each and every KGPian !!! The only event in Eastern India where Diwali is celebrated with high spirits, probably you see nowhere in the world except at IIT Kharagpur. This evening people come from far of places to see the innumerable glowing diyas and enjoy this festival of lights with us.

Its very very difficult to explicate the efforts we IITians put in. Weeks of hardwork and its all gone in minutes, but when these diyas lit up .... it's indeed a breath taking spectacle !!!! We could say the teamwork, the competitive spirit, the creativity, the iitian fundas, the lively nightouts and the grandeur all define KGP life !!!

This wonderful festival of lights Illu....will reamin in the memory of every KGPian.

Long live Illu, long live KGP.

Rangoli-Celebration of Colours

Let me be frank !!! I have been a little biased at times. I have only written about Illumination. However, Rangoli, which takes place concurrently is as important.

In Rangoli, various hostels use colour powder on their common room floors to depict majestic scenes - usually related to mythology. The way myriad colours come together to form an awe-inspiring whole is really something unique to Kgp. Needless to say, it too requires a lot of hard work, perseverence, and team effort apart from dexterity with drawing, painting, and colours. When you work for 8 hours at a stretch and that too without the fan (for fear of colours blowing away), you tend to get the idea of the scale.

PS:- If you think I've exaggerated to a far extent....then.... hold on !!! Now I let these beautiful photos/pictures speak of themselves and it is upto you to decide, what all I've said is valid or invalid.

** The Images are resized, click on the images to see the original sized photo**

Hello Friends,
These are the snaps of illumination 2005 of our hostel Radhakrishnan Hall of Residence. On D-Day our enthusiasm reaches new heights as the Diwali Day progresses into a wonderful evening and hundreds n hundreds of people come from far off places to witness our hostel's illumination.

Hours before the illumination, see the guys in our hostel garden. Many others are on the chatais.

It's time to light the diyas see the table towers arranged to about 25-30 ft high.

A closer look now you can also see the guys lighting diyas in the garden.

See the guys getting down and tables are being removed slowly cautiously with and lots of attention. The photos speak of themselves what else can I say.

This is how it looks when all the 30 Thousand diyas lit up at once. I can hear you say, "Ohh!! my goodness, it's wonderful."

The Description:- This illumination describes important phases of the epic Ramayan.

Starting from the leftmost chatai :-
1. Hanuman carrying the whole mountain containing Sanjeevani Buti to save Lakshmana's life.

2. Rama leaving for Vanvaas, father Dashrata following to hold Rama back.
3. Hanuman at Ashok-Vatika to pass on Lord Rama's message to Sita.
4. The good wins over the bad. Lord Rama about to behead Ravana.
5. Sita's Agni-pariksha after returning to Ayodhya.

6. Rama and Lakshman in Shabari's aashram during Vanvaas.
7. Jatayu trying to save Sita from Ravana.
8. Lord Rama in Swyamwar.

9. Rama, Sita and Lakshmana returning to Ayodhya.

Shiva Linga. Rama worshipped Lord Shiva before setting up the setu to Lanka.

The Setu to lanka, you can see boulders here in the photo and beside it is the water body.
